According to research, intimate partner violence is quite common among couples seeking therapy. At the same time, these couples strive to end the violence, stay together safely, and build a more secure bond.
Couples therapy in cases where one partner is abusive presents significant challenges. First, the therapist may not always be aware of the violence. Second, ethical considerations may require the therapist to discontinue therapy, for example, if the issue of violence is not being addressed in individual therapy. However, there are also cases where violence becomes a central focus of the therapeutic process.
The goal of this seminar is to provide a theoretical roadmap with an attachment-focused approach to understanding the reasons behind a partner's use of violence and how to work with it. The seminar will explore ways to use EFT to help partners establish a secure bond. Topics such as assessment, de-escalation strategies for couples, understanding violence through the lens of attachment, and more will be covered.
The seminar will include video analysis, role-playing, exercises, and open discussions. The objective is to provide a mini-roadmap that integrates into the broader EFT framework
