This introductory course offers an opportunity to explore a method previously unavailable in the Russian-speaking space — Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT).
IBCT Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) is an effective and scientifically validated method designed to help couples overcome conflict and improve their relationships. This approach combines the principles of behavioral therapy with a focus on emotional intimacy and acceptance, allowing for deep and comprehensive work with both emotional and behavioral aspects of relationships.
Principles and Theoretical Foundation
IBCT is grounded in evidence-based behavioral therapy, aimed at changing behavior and perception while strengthening the emotional bond between partners. The method includes the following key components:
● Behavior and Perception Change IBCT pays special attention to how partners perceive each other’s behavior. The goal is for couples to learn how to work through their differences and find new ways to respond to conflict. ●Emotional Intimacy and Acceptance IBCT fosters an atmosphere of acceptance and support, helping partners deepen their emotional connection and understand how their behaviors influence their relationship dynamics.
Scientific Support and International Recognition The method was developed by Andrew Christensen, PhD, and colleagues with grant support from the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health. IBCT is officially recognized as an evidence-based treatment and is included in the list of recommended therapeutic methods by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)—the largest mental health system in the country.
