Shame doesn’t just settle in the pit of the stomach — it lives in the relational processes between people, and between individuals and the societies they belong to. As therapists, we often encounter shame in and around the people we work with, yet it remains one of the most difficult emotions to engage.
Drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), this workshop explores shame as an interpersonal and emotional process, deeply rooted in attachment. We’ll use the core question “Do I belong?” as a lens to understand shame and its impact on therapeutic progress.
We will explore why shame often leads to therapeutic impasses and how we can respond to it more effectively within EFT.
